Shenzhen: A school in China sparked outraged after it organised a pole dance to welcome its students after summer holidays. Xinshanhui Kingergarten school in Shenzhen, south-east China, invited parents for a welcoming ceremony.
But as the programme got underway, a scantily-clad woman began dancing around a pole, much to the shock of the parents, who later took to social media to express their outrage.
Principal Lai Rong was subsequently fired for inviting the dancer to perform at the event, where 500 children aged three to six and 100 parents were in attendance, reported CNN.
Videos posted by parents show a skimpily-dressed dancer spinning and leaning seductively on the flagpole, from which a Chinese flag was flying. Some parents are planning to withdraw their children from the school.
The local education bureau said pole dancing was “not appropriate” for a kindergarten and asked the school to apologize to students and parents.
Principal Lai told Chinese tabloid Global Times that she arranged the dance because of the dancer’s “excellent skills”.
