Tension prevailed on the district collectorate premises for some time today, when nearly 100 students, along with
their parents, laid near siege and demanding start of medical college admission process on the basis of NEET marks.

The students, majority of them girls, held placards and raised slogans.

When the agitators, who squatted at the entrance of the building housing the District Collector’s office, began to enter the office, police stepped in and asked them to disperse.

Arguments followed, creating some tense moments.

The students, who had followed the CBSE syllabus and scored good marks in NEET, said that the Government wanted to pass an ordinance to help the students from rural areas. Instead, it should try to prepare students for the common entrance test, they said, adding that their future was still uncertain.

In case the Government went ahead with the ordinance, there would be no option but to move the court against it, they added.

Parents said they had spent extra to send their wards to coaching centres and do well in the entrance examination which was being followed across the country.

The students and parents dispersed later and said their intention was to made clear to the authorities.
