Bengaluru: When the world watches Game of Thrones and you are the only one not watching it, you are brave. This is one of the forwards sitting pretty on my inbox for sometime now. And well, I must tell you, it is singularly the most important thing to do now—no conversations are made without discussing GOT. No gatherings can escape a round of rumination on GOT. You will be a internet humour, a real life humour–if you haven’t watched it. you wouldn’t believe that the love for GOT isn’t all in just watching it. It goes beyond that for adults, who recreated the magic of the serial on their big day. “Yes, the couple went as far as hosting their sangeet on GOT theme. The decor has elements from the TV show like the custom-made dragon eggs, sigils of the four houses of Westeros, and the Iron Throne, too. GOT has aroused such crazies. I wish I could remarry having the same theme,” says Sanchita Aggarwal.

For the very few uninitiated, GOT is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B Weiss. It has been adapted from A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R . Martin’s series of fantasy novels , the first of which is GOT. It is filmed in UK and many other places in the world. Currently running its 7th season, the series will conclude with its eight season in 2018.

Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, GOT has many plots and layers. “I love the story line. Something that we haven’t seen before. We keep dishing out regressive stuff in the name of Television. We don’t ideate, we don’t have anything new to give our viewers,” says Sayantan Das, a self confessed GOT fan. Though for many, it started with all the discussion surrounding it, but got hooked onto it. “I love the storyline, acting and the fictional characters they have created. It has drama, emotion—deaths that just spring out of nowhere, the horror, the shock, the incest, the murder,” says Dibya Saha, who has watched all the series and also predicts the future. Abhishek and Deepika Singh are a part of a whatsapp group dedicated to GOT fans where they discuss, create theories of who is going to rule Westeros, talk about special characters like Daenerys, Jon Snow, who will be the next to die and how would it be if we were a part of this world. “I am a super fan of GOT. the series has it all–great story, hardcore politics, glamour, sex and dragons. I won’t say this is out of the box, but would definitely credit the writer Martin for bringing together mythical creatures doing the most usual thing. For me, Mahabharata is the closest. We surely can do this, but somehow we never manage storylines like this,” concludes Deepika Singh.
