Will not insist on original licence till Sept 5, Govt tells HC

The Tamil Nadu Government on Friday informed the Madras High Court that it would defer its instruction (till September 5) to motorists to carry their original licence.

Advocate-General Vijay Narayan gave the undertaking to the Bench during the hearing of a write filed by Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners Federation.

The State Government, on August 22, ordered that motorists should carry their original licence from September 1 while driving.

Earlier, talking to reporters here, Regional Transport Officer S. Udhaya Kumar said defaulters would be fined Rs. 500 or may face three months jail term.
