Winners of two separate motor races here today, wanted their States–Kerala and Telangana– to create motor tracks to develop and popularise the sport.

Diljith T S of Kerala, who won the LGB Formula of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing championship 2017 at Kari Motor Speedway here, said despite any track to practice in his home State, he manage to win the championship.

Being the only motor racer in the State, he has once approached the then Chief Minister, Oomen Chandy to take steps to get a track in the state, so that the youngsters can participate and popularise the sport, Diljith told reporters.

Chandy has assured to help set up one if he found 100 acres of land for the purpose, Diljith said, adding “search is on for such large expanse of land.”

On popularity of the sport in his state, Diljith said that he was the only person known in this track sport. “However, we are not not Dhonis or Kohlis to be recognised by the public or the government,” he lamented.

“I have to come to Coimbatore to practice, or go to Chennai or Delhi, the only three such tracks in India”, he said.

Similar is the case of Euro JK 17 Race winner, Hyderabad-lad Anindith Reddy.

If both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governments come together and provide an international standard track, the sport can be
popularised in the area.

He wanted at least 200 acre of land to have 3.5 Km track, which was not a problem if both the governments joined together, Anindith said.

Though the sport was not that popular in the State a decade ago, it was now now catching up amongst youngsters by way of TVs, he said.
