Situation in TN warrants political plunge, Kamal Haasan

Kottayam: Veteran film personality Kamal Haasan said that there was no heartburn in Tamil Nadu over his entry into politics.

The present political situation is so fluid that the attitude of other politicians is positive. “The mood is like, let anyone else come, our support is there,” he said in Malayalam during a programme with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan telecast on Monday.

Keeping aside just the desire to take a plunge into politics, the present situation has made it essential for him to play an important role in the current political scenario, he said in response to a question by Pinayari.

The actor said he already had the backing of about 5 lakh people who are involved in his charity work for last several years. Oflate he had been facing problems in running the institution due to the hurdles that are being created. It is a social responsibility of anyone in such a situation to get involved in politics.

There is a dire need for social vigilance among people to cleanse the political system in Tamil Nadu, he said.

Kamal Haasan said Malayalam gave him the much-needed break in the beginning of his career and has helped him reach the present situation.

He recalled that once Anna Durai had chided a Minister for misbehaving with an IPS officer. Anna Durai said the police official could win election if given a ticket, but the Minister may not be qualify an IPS examination.

He underscored the need for greater cooperation between Tamil Nadu and Kerala which had strong historical and socio cultural ties.

Kamal Haasan hailed the remarkable achievements of the State in some sectors which were comparable to European standards despite poor economic growth.

He also praised Pinarayi for continuing to serve the people despite the various challenges ahead of him.
