Passengers safe after plane skids into canal at Kochi airport

Kottayam: The more than 100 passengers on board the Abu Dhabi-Kochi flight had a providential escape when the front wheel of the plane after landing got trapped in a canal in the wee hours of Tuesday at the Kochi international airport.

All the 102 passengers and six crew members were safe, according to sources in the airport.The incident occurred when the aircraft skid into a canal while it was heading towards the taxiway after landing at 2.40 am.
The front tyre of to the plane got stuck in the canal after veering off the normal path.

Passengers were taken out off the plane using a ladder.The DGCA has started probe into the incident which according to preliminary investigations could have otherwise turned into a major mishap.
