Various media organisations, journalists and political parties in Tamil Nadu condemned the brutal killing of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru on Tuesday night.

More than hundred journalists from various media organisations also held a protest demonstration in front of State Guest House demanding the arrest of the culprits, who were responsible for the killing of Gauri Lankesh.
Strongly condemning the brutal murder, the Chennai Union of Journalists (CUJ) said the killing was the latest in a series of murders of rational activists in Karnataka.

“We see this as a systematic attempt to suppress voices of reason and sanity which stand up to communal forces in the State,” CUJ President V Anbazhagan said.

The union also urged the Karnataka Chief Minister to set up a special investigation team to bring the anti-social elements behind the dastardly act to book as early as possible.

“Only such swift and speedy action will deter other such acts in the future,” Anbazhagan said.

Chennai Press Club Deputy Secretary Barathi Thamizhan said the Central and the State Governments should ensure security for every journalist.
