The relatives of the those who died in the bus stand collapse in Somanur on Thursday refused to accept the solatium announced by the Tamil Nadu Government.

The relatives, who came to the Government Hospital in the evening, told reporters that the bus stand was constructed with poor quality construction materials. “That is the reason why it collapsed. There was so much corruption involved in it,” the relatives, numbering about 60, alleged. They also raised slogans against the Government.

Some of them said they would not accept the solatium of Rs. 4 lakh each announced by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

As they started raising slogans and decided to stay back, Police Commissioner Amalraj and other senior police officials arrived at the scene and held talks with them.

Earlier, Local Administration Minister S.P. Velumani visited the hospital and consoled the injured persons.
