Chennai: Tamil Nadu Speaker P Dhanapal on Friday ordered the 19 AIADMK legislators supporting `ousted’ leader TTV Dinakaran to appear before him on September 14 in connection with the show-cause notice issued to them.

Dhanapal on August 24 had issued notices to the rebel MLAs, who are in the Dinakaran camp, as to why action should not be taken against them under anti-defection law.

The Speaker’s notice assume significance as it comes in the wake of legislators vacating their rooms at the resort in Puducherry and reportedly having left for another luxury hotel in Coorg in Karnataka.

The notice came after AIADMK chief whip S Rajendran wrote a letter to the Speaker, seeking disqualification of the legislators as they had handed over letters to Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing their support to the Edappadi K Palaniswami government.

They are bound to lose their MLA status since they attracted the provisions under the Anti-Defection Act, he said.

He also sought action against them under Rule 6 of the Tamil Nadu Assembly that disqualifies a member for anti-party activities under the anti-defection law.

“They (19 MLAs) had not informed me that they were meeting the Governor. They have acted against the interest of the party,” Rajendran added.
