The Central and the State Governments should improve the infrastructure in Government hospitals in order to provide better health care to the people, said Dr. Shiva K. Misra, President, Association of Surgeons of India.

Inaugurating the 40th national conference of ACRISON 2017, organised by Gem Hospital at Codissia Grounds here on Friday, Dr. Misra said only 20 per cent of the population go to Government hospitals for surgeries or treatment.

“There should be good infrastructure, latest equipment and other facilities in the hospitals. The Government should focus more on rural areas and primary health centres,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman of Gem Hospital Dr. C. Palanivelu said the incidence of colon and rectal diseases had increased due to lifestyle and food habits. “With the help of laparascopic and robotic technology it can be detected at the earlier stage and cured completely. Laparoscopic and robotic surgeries have become popular globally. They are focused on live surgeries apart from symposium and panel discussions,” he added.

More than 1000 surgeons from India and abroad participated.
