Remember, you make your first impression with the presentation of the gift, so do it as well as you can. And yes, you can do it with some simple tips and tricks, says Amruta Walvekar of ‘Wrapistry’, who believes in staying true to the essence of minimalism in contemporary gift wrapping techniques.

What are the different forms of contemporary gift wrapping?
Minimal is always more and I have personally always loved the brown kraft paper wrappings. Your gift wrap can be as simple or as elaborate as you can dream it to be. On other days one can never go wrong with a monochrome paper with a bright red ribbon.

Can you talk about the upcoming event along with MUJI?
I am a keen MUJI aficionado and it gives me immense pleasure to collaborate with the brand in India to host an exciting gift wrapping workshop across Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. Keeping in mind MUJI’s inherent Japanese heritage and brand colors, I have planned an interesting session to demonstrate various gift packaging techniques and styles including Japanese pleating.

How’s the essence of minimalism important in gift wrapping?
We love bling as a country and too much of everything seems to be the chosen style. Wrapistry’s design sensibility matches with MUJI’s. I have particularly chosen to spotlight minimalism in the gift wrapping workshop at MUJI, simply because it seamless reflects the brand’s philosophy and design aesthetic. Gifting your loved one something truly bespoke is a surefire way of letting them know you care this resonates with MUJI and Wrapistry.

Could you talk about ‘Wrapistry’ ?
The social structure of our country to not be unconventional, made me earn an MBA which was followed by a corporate job in London but my head still remained in the ribbon drawer. Wrapistry is my love for beautifying all things paper and ink. I gift wrap for weddings and corporate events. I also design contemporary social stationery and want to help revive the art of hand-written correspondence in a small way thus to aid this effort I started host modern calligraphy workshops across India along with my gift wrapping sessions which have earned me much love from across the country.

Many are pursuing it as a hobby…
They are. It’s actually quite therapeutic to constantly be surrounded by beautiful paper and ribbons but the most important factor is the appreciation one receives for all the efforts taken. I have a lot of guests who have attended a Wrapistry workshop and ventured out on their own, it’s a wonderful feeling to see women empower themselves and follow their hearts.
