Kozhikkode: In a daring incident, a 66-year-old housewife Saramma successfully repulsed attempts of burglars who tried to snatch her gold chain in her house in Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district.

Her husband and doctor son had gone out, leaving har and her grandchild at home when the thieves intruded into the premises at night the other day.

On hearing unusual sounds from the courtyard, she opened the door and went out to see if anyone was there.

On seeing her the burglars pounced on her and tried to snatch her 5-sovereign chain. She resisted with all her might, bit them and raised an alarm to alert the neighbours who responded quickly. On seeing them, the thieves took to their heels.

The area had witnessed burglary a few days back.
