Opposition legislator N Karthick today led a dharna in front of the corporation office demanding immediate supply of drinking water to all areas in his constituency. The DMK MLA from Singanallur with party workers squatted in front of the of East Zone Corporation office.

He blamed the city corporation for neglecting the constituency, despite a quite comfortable water position as all reservoirs were full because of heavy rain during the last one fortnight. Karthick said the residents in the area were getting water once in 23 days for the last six months.

Though he personally appealed to the Commissioner and other officials for release of water on a war-footing, little was done, he alleged. Kathick is the lone DMK MLA from the city. He said that arrest of party workers agitating over the basic needs was no solution.

He turned down the appeal made by an official to withdraw the agitation as the matter would be looked into and wanted senior officials to give such an assurance.Later, he along with nearly 200 workers was arrested
