‘Take it easy’ was the reaction of Tamil Nadu

Forest Minister Dindigul Srinivasan on the reported review carried out by Governor Banwarilal Purohit with offficials in the city two days ago.

The review was not an affront on the rights of the Government, Srinivasan told mediapersons and that the officials or anybody summoned by the Governor would have to attend the meeting.

“Some wanted to sensationalise the issue, but take it easy,” was what the minister had to say.

The Governor had asked about various Central schemes, including the Smart City, he said, adding that he would welcome the Governor reviewing the works in all districts.

He avoided a clear answer on the question raised from various quarters whether this would have been possible under a Jayalalithaa regime. He added that his party had no problem with the BJP and the Government was functioning very well.

Separately, PMK youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss said the district-wise review by a Governor was against democratic traditions.

About the raids, he said his party had already given complaints about corruption in 18 departments when K Rosaiah was the Governorand there was no response from Governor incharge Vidyasagar Rao on
the letter given by 18 MLAs withdrawing support to the Government. “The situation in Puducherry is different as it is a union Territory and the Lt. Governor has certain powers,” Anbumani said.

The Governor should take action, since the State Government was functioning as a ‘benami’ one and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken control of it, he alleged.

The outcome of the Governor’s review would be known in the coming days and if necessary an all-party delegation should meet the President in this matter, he added.
