Joint replacement not first treatment option, say experts

Joint replacement is not the first and only treatment option and cartilage repair should be considered, said Indian Cartilage Society president Dr Deepak Goyal at the inauguration of the two-day conference on ‘preserving the joints’ here on Friday.

Deepak said the society aimed at creating awareness about joint preservation by avoiding knee replacements. Cartilage repair was a phenomenon not popular among the general public and also the medical fraternity.

Conference president and founder of Ortho-One Orthopaedic Specialty Centre Dr David V Rajan said delegates would deliberate on the advanced treatment methods used in cartilage repair, stem cell therapy and also about the make in India products developed for the cartilage repair.

A number of orthopaedic, knee and arthoplasty surgeons from the across the country, besides international faculties, are attending the conference.
