GST hiccups over, jewellery business picking up

After an initial slowdown owing to implementation of GST, gold jewellery business has started showing signs of picking up, according to leading jewellers in the city.There was some slowdown in business due to
implementation of GST some five months ago. Teething problems did bring down customer arrivals, Prince Jewellery Chairman and Managing Director Princeson Jose told mediapersons here today.

Jewellers and customers now had a clear picture of the tax structure and its benefits and business started picking up, particularly with the advent of marriage season, he said.

As part of the season, the outlet here is organising a 23-day antique and diamond jewellery exhibition-cum-sale from today and the company expects a business of more than Rs 1 crore, he added.
On sale at the expo would be works from Chettinadu, Malabar, Travancore, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Hyderabad. They would in the price range of Rs 25,000 to Rs 50 lakh.
