Battery car services for elderly, disabled at Salem Junction

Battery-operated car services have been introduced on the platforms of Salem Junction to help differently abled and senior citizens.
The services was launched by K Madhu, Divisional Commercial Manager of Salem Junction, and will be available on platform 3 and 4 on payment basis.
According to a statement from Divisional Regional Manager Hari Shankar Verma, demand for such service had been a long pending demand.
The services contract has been awarded to Shuttle Cars Chennai for a 5-year term with the company also taking care of maintenance, staff, salary and other operational costs.
The charge is Rs 10 per passenger and the service will be free for children below 5 years. The service is mainly for senior citizens, medically sick passengers, differently abled persons and pregnant women.
Luggage other than hand baggage will not be permitted in the car whose movement will be GPS-monitored.

The services will soon be introduced in Erode and Coimbatore stations, he added.
