Rajinikanth ends suspense; releases political blockbuster by announcing entry into politics

Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday declared his political entry and announced that he will fight all the 234 seats in Tamil Nadu assembly elections, when held to bring about a revolution in polity and governance.

Corruption has corroded the government and governance has been the biggest casualty. Rajinikanth asserted over the past few months, politicians in the state have turned Tamil Nadu into a laughing stock across the country, he said and added, political leaders have looted the state.

His announcement was celebrated with bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets outside the Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai and at all fan club offices across the state. “This is not cinema, this is reality,” Rajinikanth said promising that he would tour the length and breadth of the country to know the people and their problems.

Welcoming his decision, BJP state unit chief Tamilisai Soundararajan recalled Rajinikanth’s comments about Jayalalithaa and how she was thrown out, his entry now will make a huge difference to the politics and polity of Tamil Nadu.

Congress leader Americai Narayanan welcomed Rajinikanth’s announcement as did leaders of other political parties.

Rajinikanth declared that honesty and sincerity will be the basis of his politics and political journey.

Inside the venue, people from all walks of life including government officers, police person kept queuing up for a picture with the film superstar-turned politician.

Rajinikanth said if he did not enter politics to clean it up now, it would be betrayal of the love and affection of people across the state who were crying out for good governance.

He has already set the agenda in Tamil Nadu for the next general elections, to assembly and also to Lok Sabha polls due in 2019. However, he said he will reveal his plans for 2019 general elections at the appropriate time.
