Members from the Hindu Auto Thozilalar Munnani appealed to the City Police Commissioner not to remove the auto stand in front of the city railway station.

In a petition to the Commissioner, K. Periaiah, the members said the removal of the stand would affect the livelihood of more than 40 auto drivers.

“Till 2003, autos were parked inside the station. We were asked to park our vehicles outside the station due to renovation works. But after the renovation private taxis were allowed to park inside the premises,” T. Guna, a member of the association, said.

“Now the Railways has sought police help in removing the auto stand that has been there in front of the station. This will affect our livelihood,” he added.

The petitioners said they were currently in discussion with railway authorities to allow them to park their vehicles inside the station. They appealed to Periaiah to initiate steps to prevent the railways from removing the auto stand.
