In order to present to the world the traditional and cultural forms of Tamil Nadu, including martial arts and cooking, a three day event is being organised here, even as an attempt will be made to enter various record books by preparing Pongal (rice savoury) with the participation of 2,500 persons.
Beginning on January 13, the +Tamilar Thiruvizha=( Tamils Festival) will have an exhibition of local breeds of goat, cow and bull, cock and horse for the benefit of the people, who had no no opportunity to see them, Vijayalakshmi, the convenor of Nayam Experience, the organisors told reporters here today.
Similarly, there will be traditional sports like Chadu Gudu (kabaddi), breaking the pot, malakamba, lifting of round stones and gusti, she said.
About 2,500 persons, majority of them women in traditional Tamil dress, will attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, by preparing Pongal with ingredients of rice, moong dal and jaggery from 7 Am to 9 AM on January 14, the pongal day. If successful this will be a a new record in the books, she said.
There will be special games for women, like seven holes, rangoli, making flower garland, grinding in traditional hand grinder, Vijayalakshmi said.
Another major attraction will be the traditional village and folk dances like Karagattam, Peacock dance, Oyilattam, Poykal Kudire, Puppet Dance, Silabatta, Therukkoothu, she said.
