Elephants with special talents, features attract tourists to Thekkampatti camp

Coimbatore: The special features and talents of some elephants at the rejuvenation camp at Thekkampatti near Mettupalayam, some 50 km from here, are attracting visitors and tourists.

A big draw is an elephant from Rajagopalasamy Temple, Chengamalam, who has one foot long hair grown on its forehead. The hair has maintained by its mahout for the last six years, sources in the HR and CE department, organisers of the 48-day camp, said.

Elephant Lakshmi from Renukambal-Raman temple in Polur in Thiruvannamalai is showing its talent in traditional martial arts of wielding stick (Silambu) in its trunk.

Another Lakshmi of Arivindalochanar Temple in Srivaigundam is attracting the visitors by its special talent of playing mouth organ. She holds the organ in the trunk to play notes, while ringing a small bell  tied on her leg as accompaniment.
