COIMBATORE: Corruption and confusion in the governance has resulted in the situation to increase the bus fare, DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi said on Saturday.

Talking to reporters at the airport here, Kanimozhi said it was also a clear indication that the Government was not functioning properly, particularly the transport sector.

Seeking to withdraw the fare hike, as the people will not be able to take on the burden, she said that the Government’s inefficiency in handling the sector has led to the situation and it was not fair to put the burden of its wrong doing on common man.

She said that the demands of the transport workers were solved through negotiations during DMK rule and there was no increase in the bus fare hike.

On the death of medical student Sharath Prabhu in New Delhi, Kanimozhi said the State Government should create an helpline for the benefit of students from Tamil Nadu, who go outside the State for higher education.

Later, Kanimozhi called upon Sharath Prabhu’s parents in their house at Tiruppur and offered her condolences.
