Coimbatore: The recent bus fare hike has not gone well with the public and protests were galore. Joining the protest in a different way has been UMT Raja, Coimbatore-based artist, who has made a miniature art out of bus tickets to express how people have been affected by the fare hike.

Raja said, “The public is angry with the Government for this sudden price hike. Every day when you travel by bus you can hear the abuses and pain co-passengers share about the price hike. Most of the passengers are daily wage workers and the hike has pushed them to a point where there won’t be any money left for them to save.”

Earlier, the daily bus travel cost for a person would be less than Rs 50. But today it was Rs 50 one way alone, he added.

Inspired by these protests, Raja made a miniature model out of bus tickets where the ticket cries: ’Why people are angry with me?’

Raja said, “Everyday I see people crushing and throwing away the bus tickets. There is lot of anger in them. This miniature is a ticket character crying. It has been made out of 10 tickets and it is approximate height is less than 2 inches.”

Earlier, Raja had made miniature art on attack of dengue in the State and also miniature of leaders like MGR.

Earlier this week, Sai Ganesh, a marketing executive, returned his voter’s ID at the District Collectorate protesting the bus fare hike.
