COIMBATORE: The three-day national conference on Bronchology and Interventional Pulmology will be here from February 7 in order to provide a platform for fine tuning bronchoscopy and intervention skills.

“The participants can learn new competencies under the guidance of pioneers in the field of interventional pulmonology from across the globe, at the first of the kind workshop Broncocon-2018,” the organising president and consultant pulmonologist, Royal Care Hospital, Dr. V.R. Pattabhiraman said.

“The department of Pulmonary Medicine of the hospital has been the first to introduce bronchial thermo plasty for management of severe asthma in India. So far, six patients have been cured by the procedure since June last in the hospital, which serves as the nodal referral centre for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in the region,” he said.

Stating that the workshop will involve hands on stations with explanted pig lungs specifically modelled to simulate clinical scenarios, he said that the workshop will be divided into basic and advanced sub groups catering to the learning requirements of about 700 delegates, including faculty from abroad.

The conference, under the aegis of Indian Association for Bronchology, will have live workshop, including conventional trans-bronchial Needle Aspiration and Bronchial Thermoplasty, Pattabhiraman said.
