Training on advances in heterosis breeding of crops begins in TNAU

COIMBATORE: A 21-day training on ‘Recent Advances and Accomplishments in Heterosis Breeding of Crops’ began at the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University here on Wednesday.

Organised by the Directorate of Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics (CPBG), TNAU, the training aims to impart technical knowledge on latest developments and skill orientation in synthesizing new potential hybrids in crop plants.

Trainees from several States – Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telengana and Kerala – will be exposed to the latest achievement in respect of heterosis breeding of different crops at TNAU, Hybrid Rice Evaluation Centre, Gudalur, Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, Central Institute of Cotton Research Centre, Coimbatore, Indian Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam. Experienced crop breeders from corporate sector will also be invited to interact with the participants.
