COIMBATORE: Valentines’ Day became memorable and emotional to a couple from Perambalur in Tamil Nadu, when a 34-year-old woman donated part of her liver to her husband, who was suffering from liver failure.

The woman, Nisha, was doubly happy when the doctors in Gem Hospital and Research Centre here operated laparoscopically to remove the right part of her liver, the first of its kind in India and transplanted to her husband Jaghir Hussain, the Centre chairman, Dr. C. Palanivelu, told reporters on Friday.

The transplant was done on the night of February 13 and Nisha was in ICU next to her husband and the next morning, on the Valentines’ Day, she just walked to meet her husband, who became emotional on being greeted by wife, he said.

The couple was present at the press conference.
