Almonds lower all-cause mortality rate, says nutritionist

Coimbatore : People who consume nuts such as almonds, at least seven times a week, had a 20 per cent lower all-cause mortality rate in the country, a senior nutritionist said today.

A study in the New England journal of Medicine, showed the population of all ages suffering from various high risk diseases in India had 20 per cent lower mortality once they started consuming almonds, NB Harini of Chennai said.

Here to give a talk at a college on the importance of healthy living in today’s fast pace life, Harini highlighted the importance of incorporating small changes in life like eating a handful of almonds daily and working out regularly to help maintain a healthy life.

At least 25 gm a day, even brought diabetes under control, she said and almond played a role in satiety, weight and diabetes management and maintenance of a healthy heart.
