COIMBATORE: A 13-year old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in his house at K. Chettipalayam in Tirupur, reportedly due to harassment by some teachers and classmates.

According to police, Vivekanandan, an eighth grader, after returning home from the school on Thursday, headed straight to a room and bolted it from inside.

As he did not open the door for a long time, his parents and neighbours broke it open, only to find him hanging dead, police said. On information, Nallur police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it for postmortem to Tirupur Government Hospital.

Police recovered a letter purportedly written by Vivekanandan, which stated that two teachers had complained about him to his parents over phone, which provoked him to commit suicide. The letter also said that some classmates were teasing him.

Even as police started inquiry with the teachers and students on Friday, parents and relatives staged a demonstration seeking action against the teachers.
