Salem Town station to be first all-women railway station in division

Coimbatore : Salem Town railway station would be initiated as the first All-Women Railway Station in Salem Division of Southern Railway, a top official said today.

In his address during the International Women’s Day celebrations at the Salem divisional office, Divisional Railway Manager Hari Shankar Verma said one of the railway schools within the jurisdiction of the division would also function as an All-Women Railway School.

From head mistress to teaching staff and non-teaching staff, all will be women, an official statement said. Listing out various facilities that had been made for women employees by the administration, he said that whenever leave was sought by the women employees, it had been ensured that it was sanctioned without any delay.

Several senior officials felicitated women employees and lauded their contribution in the betterment of Indian Railways in general and Salem Division in particular.

President of Southern Railway Womens’ Welfare Organisation Anitha Verma presented prizes to the women employees who had won in various competitions held as part of the Women’s Day.
