Coimbatore : Major trade unions in nearby Tirupur have expressed solidarity to the April 5 Tamil Nadu Bandh called by all political parties against failure to form the Cauvery Management Board.

A meeting of the unions, chaired by LPF district president K Ramakrishnan and attended by the representatives of AITUC, CITU, INTUC and MLF, decided to participate in the bandh.

Union leaders requested all the workers in hosiery and textile industries, powerloom sector, dyeing and printing units, rice mills and automobile sector across the district, to extend their cooperation to make the bandh a success, Ramakrishnan said.

The agitation was to condemn the delay by the Centre in setting up the board, eyeing the Assembly elections in Karnataka and also to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu, he said.
