Bengaluru: With distribution of freebies like alcohol, sarees, vouchers, and cookers posing a major threat to free and fair elections, Ravi Krishna Reddy, an independent candidate from Jayanagar constituency, has come up with a new offer to fight this menace.

Reddy, who heads the Lanchamukta Karnataka Nirmana Vedike, has asked the voters to record the distribution of freebies in Jayanagar constituency in a sting operation and submit it to him.

In return, he would reward them with Rs 50,000. Deepak, the election agent for Ravi Krishna Reddy, said that they came up with the idea after they received complaints from voters that party workers of many candidates had been distributing freebies in the constituency.

“We have already brought the issue into the notice of the Election Commission, which asks for proof before initiating any probe,” said Deepak.

“Therefore, we have asked the voters to record the distribution of freebies and hand the video to us. The video will be handed over to the authorities, requesting legal action against the corrupt candidates.”

Meanwhile, he assured that the identity of the whistle-blower will remain confidential, adding that the initiative will encourage voters to fight corruption.

Ravi Krishna Reddy, who had been the co-convener of Aam Aadmi Party Karnataka for some time, allegedly received threat calls in March, warning him against contesting the upcoming assembly elections.

The anti-graft activist, who aims to eradicate corruption in the country, is contesting against BJP’s BN Vijaya Kumar and Congress party’s Saumya Reddy.
