Social evils and crimes against women are on the rise due to the increase in alcohol consumption and cultural degradation. In order to impose total prohibition in this country, the Jamait-e-Islami Hind is organising various programmes like pamphlet distribution, street meetings, short-film screenings, anti-liquor signature campaigns, and de-addiction treatments, etc. As a part of the nationwide campaign, a month-long awareness programme on the ill-effects of liquor was launched in Coimbatore city on October 2.

Today, on October 19, 2015, members of the women’s wing of the JeIH marched to Coimbatore collectorate under the leadership of Coimbatore City in-charge Farzana Riyaz, with their mouths tied with black bands, and presented a memorandum to the Collector.

Referring to the programme, Farzana Riyaz mentioned that due to the proliferation of drinking and obscene cultures, social evils and crimes against women are on the rise. The future generation is getting addicted to liquor. The JeIH has been agitating for many years, demanding a ban on liquor in this country.
