The Domestic Export and Marketing Intelligence Cell (DEMIC) of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has advised farmers to sow coriander this season. The farm gate price of coriander at the time of harvest in February-March will be around Rs.9,000-9,500 per quintal. The current price is Rs.11,500 per quintal.

Coriander grown in Tamil Nadu brings higher prices due to its higher quality than those from other major producer-states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Uttar Pradesh.

Coriander seeds are harvested when they turn golden brown. In 2013-14, 2,614 tonnes of coriander was produced in 7,527 hectare in Tamil Nadu. It is exported to other countries in the form of powder and oil.
