All India Basketball tourney in Coimbatore from May 26

Coimbatore : The country’s leading teams are taking part in the 53rd All India Basketball Tournament for men, beginning here from May 26. The 17th CRI Pump Trophy for women will also be held during this six-day championship, Coimbatore District Basketball Association (CBDA) president C Palanisamy told reporters here today.
Punjab Police, Punjab, Indian Air Force, Delhi, Customs-Chennai, Arise Steel-Chennai, Indian Railway, Delhi, ASC Bengaluru, Income Tax Delhi and CBDA would vie for the honours in the Nachimuthu Gounder Cup for Men, he said.

In the women’s category, Eastern Railway, Kolkatta, Kerala Police, Thiruvananthapuram, South West Railway, Hubli, Arise Steel, Chennai, Sports Hostel, Mysuru, KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, Tamil Nadu Juniors and CBDA would be participating, Palanisamy said.
The teams will play on league basis till May 29 and semi-finals and finals will be held on May 30 and 31, respectively. The winners in the men’s category will get Rs 1 lakh and the Nachimuthu Gounder Cup and runners-up Rs 50,000, while women’s champion will get Rs 50,000 and CRI Pumps Trophy and the runners-up Rs 25,000.
