DMK workers protest against Stalin’s arrest, held

COIMBATORE: Scores of DMK and other political party workers were arrested on Thursday for attempting to stage picketing against the police firing in Thoothukudi and also arrest of DMK Working President M.K. Stalin in Chennai.

Police personnel have been deployed in and around the city, apprehending protest by various political parties and organisations against the firing and State Government.

Nearly 500 DMK workers were arrested for staging picketing at various places in and around the city condemning Stalin’s arrest. Some 200 DMK workers were arrested in Pollachi and 100 in Mettupalayam, when they staged picketing.

In Tirupur, about 40 CPI-M and AIYF workers were arrested for attempting to stage picketing at two different places, they said. The VOC Park grounds has been brought under tight police security since Wednesday night, anticipating agitation by various organisations.
