Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) today cautioned summer cotton growers against non-removal of weeds, which are the alternative source of insect pests. An advisory to growers asked them to dispose of the crop residues as soon as harvest was over and not to store the stalks in the field.

Summer ploughing was a good agronomic practice for removal of pupal stage pests from the soil, it said, adding that weeds, another source of insect pests, should be removed at the right time.
