CM Palaniswami urges students not to take extreme steps over exam results

Chennai : Tamil Nadu chief minister Edapaddi Palanswami on Wednesday appealed to the students not to take their own lives on marks they score or inability to make an entry into a course through an entrance examination.
His appeal came in assembly when the chief minister expressed grief and sadness over the suicide of Prathiba for failing to score high marks in NEET examination that qualifies students to enter medical studies. She committed suicide on June 4 after NEET exam results were declared.

The chief minister announced a solatium of Rs 7 lakhs to the family of Prathiba. He also appealed to students not to take such drastic steps and life presented many opportunities.
Prathiba had scored 1,125/1,200 marks in the plus two exams but could not score high marks in the NEET examination. Dejected, she took her life at her home in Villupuram district.
Tamil Nadu had seen wide-spread protests over NEET examination. Another girl, Anita, had also committed suicide over the issue.
