In a noble initiative, a Coimbatore based NGO named Agni Siragugal has donated a computer to the Panchayat Union Elementary school at A. Sangampalayam in Pollachi on Sunday.

M. Prabhu, the founder of the organization, said that the initiative is aimed at imparting computer knowledge to less-privileged students. “I studied in a government school and it was hard for me to even pay my fees. I stood outside my classrooms for most of the days as punishment for not paying the fees. There are many students who still face this situation. I had started this organization to help such students,’ said the 23-year-old Prabhu, who is currently working as an application engineer at a private company.

Being largely inspired by the speeches of APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, Prabhu admitted that the organization was named after the visionary’s book. “Kalam started his life from humble beginnings and went on to become the president of the country. He always addressed students and inspired them. We hope that the organization too inspires students from the lower economic backgrounds,” he said, and added that he chose the school because most of the students from the school are from orphanages.

“Matriculation schools impart computer knowledge at a very young age. This initiative will help students from government schools to get a basic knowledge of computers,” he said.

As many as 25 students from the school will benefit from this event, which is named as ‘Mudhal Pathippu.’ “We are planning to take this initiative to other schools in the future,” said Prabhu.

Meanwhile, Veni, the headmistress of the school, thanked the organizers and said that the computer will be used to impart linguistic knowledge to the children using basic presentations. K. Kalyani, the ward councillor, and area president S.A. Ranganathan were also present at the event.
