Wild elephant gives birth to male calf in a plantain farm

An elephant delivered a male calf in a plantain farm near Pannimadai today.
Hearing the continuous trumpeting sounds in the early hours, the villagers of Varapalayam went to the farm and found the elephant giving birth to the calf. The mother did not allow anyone near the calf or herself.
The villagers have informed the forest officials.
