Coimbatore : Coimbatore All Students Organisation Federation on Saturday demanded immediate revocation of the suspension of a first-year MA history girl student of Government College of Arts and Science for celebrating the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh..

A resolution passed at the meeting of the federation here, comprising four student unions, said though student S Malathi had organised the function to celebrate the birth anniversary, the talking points during it were the lack of basic amenities in the college and also hostel.

The meeting also demanded that the Government provide basic amenities such as drinking water and proper toilet facilities at the college and also at the students hostels.

Those attended the meeting included representative of SFI and Campus Front of India. Malathi was suspended on October 1 for organising the meeting, stating that it could have affected the peace on the campus, and Malathi termed the college action as an attempt to muzzle freedom of expression.

The college management is to hold an inquiry on October 22 to decide the future course of action.
