The police department is expected launch very soon a smartphone application ‘Police E-Eye’ in association with accident-free Coimbatore initiative ‘Uyir’ to help public report violations to police.

Reports say traffic police have issued 949 photo challans to motorists for violations and collected Rs 4.68 lakh as fine. In Traffic West limits, 829 challans were issued, when it was 120 challans in Traffic East limits.
Photo challans were introduced when K. Periaiah was the City Police Commissioner, which is being taken forward by the present official Sumit Sharan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sujit Kumar.

The new challan will have a photo of the violation, giving little opportunity to deny the charge.

“The police clicks photos of the vehicle involved in the traffic violation which will be printed in the challan. An internal WhatsApp group has been created where all police personnel can share the photos of violations. The challan is served to the violator in person. A receipt will be given for the fine amount collected,” said Traffic West Assistant Commissioner of Police Raj Khanna.

Photo challans are generally issued for illegal parking, creating obstruction on busy stretches, helmet-less two-wheeler ride, triple ride and jumping signals.
