Ooty : The 62-year-old 28 Air Defence Regiment on Monday affiliated with Madras Regiment at a official ceremony at nearby Wellington.

The 28 Air Defence Regiment took its birth from 16th Battalion of Madras Regiment (Travancore) in Hyderabad in 1956 and the old alliance came alive during the affiliation ceremony.

It was expected to lead to healthy inter-arms relations which would facilitate better training and camaraderie. It would also provide an opportunity to understand each others’ capabilities and share military knowledge, an official statement said.

The charter of affiliation was signed by Colonel of the Madras Regiment Lt Gen Rajeev Ghopra and Director General Army Air Defence Colonel Commandant Lt Gen AP Singh. Commanding Officer 28 Air Defence Regiment attended the ceremony witnessed by a large number of serving officers, families and veterans.
