The BJP is relieved and even happy that superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday came out in open praise of the saffron party.

Responding to questions from media persons, the superstar said that when all parties gang up against one party, everyone knows which party is strong. Clearly alluding to the BJP, Rajinikanth said if it is ten to one, who is the stronger one. You can decide.

This had the BJP excited as backing by the superstar in Tamil Nadu will do wonders for it politically. But the film star does not oblige it fully and refused to elaborate on his support to BJP or his thinking about the BJP. On Monday he had said that the BJP was dangerous.

Explaining, he said that he had not followed the questions when fired at him by scribes and added “I had meant opposition parties believe that the BJP is dangerous. It is for the people to decide if BJP is a dangerous party, he said.

Rajinikanth used the occasion to flatly deny that the BJP was behind him as was alleged in some circles. “Only god and people are behind me,” he said.

In conversation with a private channel that Tamil Nadu ministers should mind their language, when his attention was drawn to statements from ministers on film Sarkar and its makers. A state minister, D Jayakumar had said that had Jayalalithaa been alive, no one would have dared to make such a movie. In fact, he said this in the form of asking a rhetorical question on the issue.

Rajinikanth also waded into the issue of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and said that people who had spent nearly 30 years should be released on humanitarian grounds.
