A flood alert has been sounded as the Pilloor dam was nearing full capacity. People living on the banks of Bhavani River have been asked to move to safer places.

The capacity of the dam has reached 97 feet, as against the full capacity of 100 feet, due to heavy rains in the catchment area for the last two days, official sources said.

Since the inflow to the dam was 12,000 cft per second, the Administration has decided to release water, once the dam reached 98 feet capacity. In the meanwhile, it has alerted people living in the low lying areas to move to safer places.

Siruvani too, with its full capacity of 878.3 metres, has reached a level of 872.63 metres this morning. With 200 cft water the reservoir is expected to fill to its maximum capacity, if the rains continue for another couple of days, sources said.

Meanwhile, an under construction bridge and a temporary bridge across Noyyal river in Madhampatti on the outskirts, were immersed in the rain waters.
