Bangalore : Political drama is never ending in Karnataka.

The Janata Dal (S) and Congress coalition government in Karnataka led by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy continues to wobble and a new dramatic element is introduced every day, threatening its longevity, especially ahead of the crucial general elections to Lok Sabha.

Chief Minister Kumaraswamy threated the Congress that he will resign if the Congress MLAs were not prevented from crossing the line. He asked the Congress president Rahul Gandhi to keep his flock in check or else he would have to step down.

The latest provocation for Kumaraswamy to hit out at the Congress was provided by Congress MLAs who reportedly back former Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah for the CM post. The Congress MLAs also maintain that no development work was taking place in the state under the coalition government.

Taking serious view of these comments, the Chief Minister said he was ready to step down if the Congress leadership did not prevent its leaders from crossing the line.

“If they want to continue with the same thing, I am ready to step down. They are crossing the line”, when asked ‘Congress MLAs are saying that Siddaramaiah is their CM,” Kumaraswamy said. Even the Congress leader and deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara described Siddaramaiah as the best CM.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said Siddaramaiah has been the “best CM” and maintained that for the Congress MLAs he continued to be the CM.

In fact, the comments of senior ministers that they owed their political position to the former Chief Minister in local media upset the Chief Minister to the extent that he threated to quit.

This is the latest trouble to hit the coalition that was in the news recently for each political party attacking the other for alleged poaching of MLAs.

The Congress alleged that the BJP was poaching its MLAs and the BJP too, in turn, leveled the same charge against the Congress.

But now that the threat to the government comes from the Congress itself, the BJP has hit back immediately saying that it proved their contention that they were never interested in pulling down the government.

Senior BJP leaders assert that the government will fall under the weight of its own contradictions.
