A 28-year old woman was arrested today on charges of burning her husband to death, reportedly unable to bear his torture.

Mayavan, a construction worker, and Revathi had a love marriage and had three children. Mayavan was in the habit of picking up quarrels everyday with his wife under the influence of liquor, police said.

During such a quarrel two days ago, he doused himself with kerosene and threatened to immolate himself. But it was only a threat, after which he went to sleep drenched in kerosene. However, after some time he was found in flames and some neighbours got him admitted to the Government Hospital, where he succumbed to the burn injuries last evening, they said.

While being taken to the hospital, Mayavan reportedly told one of the neighbours that Revathi had set him on fire, based on which, she was arrested.

Revathi is said to have confessed to the crime. Unable to bear the torture she was subjected to by her husband, she had poured more kerosene on Mayavan and set him afire, leading to his death. She was remanded to custody and lodged in the Central Jail here.
