Coimbatore : Three motorcycle borne unidentified persons looted eight kilos of gold ornaments after attacking a staff of a parcel service, while going to send the parcel through air cargo in the early hours of Thursday.
According to police, the 26-year old Prithvi Singh was going on his motorcycle to the city airport with the parcel containing the ornaments, valued at Rs.2.50 crore around 5.30 AM.
The parcel service used to send ornaments from various jewellery shops to different destinations by air.
Suddenly, three persons on a motorcycle, covering their head with helmet waylaid and threw chilly powder on the face of Singh in Peelamedu area and attacked him with some weapons and fled with the parcel, they said.
After complaint from the injured Singh, police rushed to the spot.
Investigations are on, after taking the footage of CCTV along the Avanashi Road, with finger print experts pressed into service.
Police suspect that this could be the handiwork of persons, who had noticed Singh taking such parcels regularly to the airport.
