Surrenders after killing brother in Mettupalayam

Coimbatore : A 24-year-old man, who hacked his own brother to death and critically injured his girlfriend, in a reported caste killing, surrendered in Mettupalayam police station.

Vinod Kumar was against his brother Kanagaraj’s friendship with a Dalit girl and opposed their plan to get married, despite his parents accepting the proposal of late.

Vinod, who noticed the couple moving around Mettupalayam town, some 40 km from here and scolded them, in a fit of anger took out a sickle and hacked his younger brother and also the girl around 6 pm yesterday in full public view and fled the scene.

Kanagarajan died on the spot, while the girl was admitted to the government hospital here after being given first aid at a private hospital near the spot of incident.

Vinod surrendered at noon and a case was registered under various Sections including 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) and further investigations are on.
