Coimbatore : The villagers of Sultanpet in the district Saturday prevented the district and police officials, who had come to measure the land for erecting High Tension electricity towers through their agricultural land.

As the officials, with the support of police, started measuring the land in Sundarapuram Varapatti village, the farmers and residents gathered in large number, encircled them and raised objection, police said.

Though the officials attempted to convince them on the need for erecting the tower, the villagers refused to budge and prevented them from doing their work.

The officials left the place as more protesting villagers started gathering there, police said
